The Daredevil “on Gargoyle” statue was released in 2009 in three different versions: the "Red” with the classic full red costume (and a run of 1500 samples), the "Yellow", inspired by the original yellow and black suit (500 pieces) and the more modern "Armor" version, which appeared in the 90s in just twenty Comics of the series dedicated to the hero (1000 pieces). The collection includes all of these version, identical in the sculpt, but very different in chromatic and aesthetic impact. The red and yellow differ just for painting and were sculpted by Randy Bowen and Troy McDevitt, while the Armor version was realized by the same Randy in collaboration with Ulises Cantu. The Man Without Fear is depicted in a very elegant and aerial pose, leaning on a splendid winged gargoyle located on a square base. The piece also offers an additional, separate square pedestal which allows to get up later the display. The open arms bring into prominence the powerful physique (apparently inspired by the world-famous tables of Gene Colan), with pectorals and abdominals in good evidence, the left leg bent in support, the right one elongated back and the hands gripping the two ends of the rod, here connected by a metal cable. The Red version is characterized by the two shifted and overlapping “D” carved in relief and a slightly metallic dark red that highlights the excellent sculpt of the body. In the Yellow version, on the contrary, a large single “D” stands on the chest, painted in a duller red and offering (with the belt and the holster) a good color contrast with the black background; the muscle contours are pointed out anywhere by reddish shades on the yellow parts of the costume. Finally, the Armor version is characterized by a black and red suit with silvery reinforced patches on shoulders, wrists and leg, with a metallic appearance. In essence, the gargoyle acts as a base to the character, but it represents a fundamental part of the statue and offers an amazing visual impact: it is full-figure sculpted, very well painted and extremely accurate in the details of the wings, legs and head, with a chain coming out of the wide open mouth and a grim and menacing expression. Generally speaking, the availability of the Daredevil statues on the market is quite good, although recently the Red version is becoming rarer and rarer (especially in Europe) and is experiencing a significant rise in price. This trend, however, is not surprising: this Bowen classic statue is a wonderful collectible and, in my opinion, one of the most successful representations of this fascinating and original superhero of the Marvel world!
